Handling everything law and justice in UN-GODI Doron is the Department of the Attorney-General (DAG). Aside from handling the administration of justice, the DAG also handles law enforcement and prisons alongside representing the UN-GODI Doronian government in legal matters. The DAG also has numerous civilian uniformed services within its portfolio, including the UN-GODI Doronian Correctional Service and the Doronian National Police.
The DAG is headed by the Attorney-General of UN-GODI Doron, a politician who must be a member of the UN-GODI Doronian Parliament. The chief civil servant in charge of the DAG is the Secretary-General.
Numerous agencies within the Department of the Attorney-General were previously groups and divisions within the department. Gradually, the departmental staff were compartmentalised resulting in the department mainly providing ministerial support to the Attorney-General while also managing the laws of the nation.
For example, the Advocate-General was formerly the additional title of the Associate Secretary (Statute). Supporting staff members (also known as civilian staff members) of the UN-GODI Doronian National Police Support Service formerly came from the Associate Secretary (DNP Support) and the DNP Support Group before becoming a unit of the DNP. Corporate and administrative services for the courts were previously the responsibility of the Associate Secretary (Courts and Tribunals) and the relevant group.
The Department of the Attorney-General was decentralised to improve efficiency and increase independence as many statutory officers (Advocate-General, Defender-General, Doronian Advocate, Doronian Guardian, and Doronian Trustee) needed some degree of distance from the Attorney-General.
The end result was that the Department of the Attorney-General is one of the smaller government departments in terms of size, but not remit. If the agencies with the department are counted, the Department of the Attorney-General would actually outsize most departments as it includes the Doronian National Police.
Structure as at 1 July 2048.
